Stefano Albertini
Director of Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and Professor of Italian Language at New York University
Stefano Albertini is a professor in the Department of Italian Studies at NYU, where he teaches Italian literature, politics, culture, and cinema. He took his first steps at the University of Parma, where he graduated with a degree in literature in 1987. He then obtained a Master of Arts degree from the University of Virginia (Charlottesville) in May 1991 with a thesis on “Politics and Language in Dante's Minor Works”, and a PhD in Italian Literature from Stanford University (Stanford) in September 1997 with a thesis on “Vendetta, Sacrifice and the Judicial System in Machiavelli”. Since July 1998, he has been Director of Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (New York University), where he had previously been Associate Director. Since 2000, he has also been Director of the Faculty of Arts and Science Summer Programme in Florence for New York University. He is Professor of Italian at New York University. He is the author of books, articles and essays in magazines. Among the awards he has received are the title of Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana for cultural merits (2009) and the Transatlantic Cultural Award from the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, USA (2018).
He also hosts a podcast, “Sedevacante”, in collaboration with “La Voce Di New York”, where, alongside Chiara Basso, he recounts what happens in the Vatican when the Pope is no longer there, covering history, culture and current affairs.
