Fortunato Ortombina graduated in Literature from the University of Parma (Faculty of Education) in 1987, with a thesis on opera theatre in Italy, which was awarded honours, and has had an extraordinary professional career. A musicologist and musician, he has deep ties to Parma: he studied at the Boito Conservatory and worked for many years at the Teatro Regio. His theatre experience and musicological studies shaped his training and professional profile, leading him to take on roles in some of Italy's major opera houses: from the Teatro Regio in Turin to the San Carlo in Naples, from La Fenice in Venice to La Scala in Milan.
